Best Gumroad Alternatives in 2026: Fees Compared on Real Sales

Gumroad takes 10% + $0.50 per sale. Seven alternatives compared on $500 and $2,000 a month: Payhip, Sellfy, Lemon Squeezy, Ko-fi, Stan Store and shopspace.

Best Gumroad Alternatives in 2026: Fees Compared on Real Sales

The best Gumroad alternative depends on why you are leaving. If it is the 10% + $0.50 on every sale, a flat-price store such as shopspace, Sellfy or Stan Store takes 0% per sale from about $19 to $29 a month. If you would rather keep paying nothing monthly, Payhip takes 5% and Lemon Squeezy takes 5% + $0.50 with tax handled.

This guide compares seven options on the same monthly sales, as of September 2026, using each platform's own pricing page. If you already bring your own audience, you can start a 7-day free trial of shopspace, which takes 0% per sale for a flat $19 a month billed yearly.

What Gumroad actually charges

Gumroad has no monthly fee. Instead it takes 10% + $0.50 on every sale made through your own profile or links, and card processing is charged on top of that. Sales that come through its Discover marketplace cost a flat 30%, processing included. Once you pass $20,000 in paid sales in a calendar month, the rest of that month's direct sales drop to 5% + $0.50. Gumroad is also the merchant of record, so it collects and pays sales tax and VAT for you (Gumroad pricing).

That structure is fine while you sell a little. It gets expensive once you sell steadily, because the cut grows with every sale, and the $0.50 hurts most on cheap products: on a $10 download Gumroad's cut is 15%. The full math at different price points is in what Gumroad actually takes per sale.

What each one costs at $500 and $2,000 a month

Here is what the platform takes from a seller with a $25 product: 20 sales makes $500 a month, 80 sales makes $2,000. Yearly-billed prices are used where a plan offers them. Card processing (Stripe or PayPal) applies on every platform, so it is left out to keep the comparison fair. Lemon Squeezy is the exception: its fee already includes processing, so its real gap to the others is smaller than the line shows.

Platform and plan Takes at $500 You keep Takes at $2,000 You keep
Gumroad, direct sales $60 $440 $240 $1,760
Beacons Free (9%) $45 $455 $180 $1,820
Lemon Squeezy (5% + $0.50, processing included) $35 $465 $140 $1,860
Payhip Free (5%) $25 $475 $100 $1,900
Sellfy (Starter $22, then Business $59 past the cap) $22 $478 $59 $1,941
Stan Store Creator ($25, 0%) $25 $475 $25 $1,975
Ko-fi Gold ($12, 0%) $12 $488 $12 $1,988
shopspace Creator ($19, 0%) $19 $481 $19 $1,981

Sellfy changes plan in that table because $2,000 a month is $24,000 a year, past the $10,000 yearly cap on its Starter plan; Business covers up to $50,000. Every flat-price line costs the same at $500 and at $2,000, which is the whole point: the platform's share stops growing when you do.

At $2,000 a month in $25 sales, Gumroad keeps $240 of it, every month. Start a 7-day free trial of shopspace and pay a flat $19 a month billed yearly instead, with 0% taken from any sale.

When to leave Gumroad, and when to stay

The break-even is the monthly revenue where Gumroad's cut equals a flat price. On a $25 product Gumroad's cut works out to 12%, so it reaches $19 at about $158 a month in sales, and $29 at about $242. Below those numbers Gumroad costs less than a subscription. Above them, every month on Gumroad costs more than a flat plan, and the gap grows with every sale.

Two things can still make Gumroad worth its cut. Discover puts your product in front of buyers who never heard of you, and 30% of a sale you would not otherwise have made is not a bad deal. And as merchant of record, Gumroad takes sales tax and VAT off your plate. If either of those is doing real work for you, count it before you move.

The alternatives, one by one

Payhip is the closest like-for-like swap. Its free plan takes 5% instead of 10% + $0.50, every feature is on every plan (custom domain and email included), signup needs no card, payouts land right after each sale, and Payhip collects and remits EU and UK VAT. Plus ($29, 2%) only beats Free above about $967 a month, and Pro ($99, 0%) only beats Plus above $3,500. Plan by plan detail is in the Payhip pricing breakdown.

Lemon Squeezy is the pick if the thing you value on Gumroad is the tax handling. It is a merchant of record too, and its 5% + $0.50 is one fee covering platform, processing and tax, with no monthly price. It sells digital products, software, courses and subscriptions, and pays out twice a month. It fits software and worldwide digital sales better than a creator storefront with courses and bookings.

Sellfy charges a flat price with 0% per sale and sells physical products and print-on-demand next to downloads, with a custom domain on every plan and a 14-day trial. The catch is the yearly sales cap ($10,000 on Starter, $50,000 on Business, $200,000 on Premium); above it, Sellfy says it may charge a 2% overage fee if you do not upgrade.

Ko-fi Gold at $12 a month with 0% is the cheapest flat plan here. It is built around tips, memberships and a simple shop, so it suits creators whose audience already supports them on Ko-fi and who do not need courses or bookings.

Stan Store takes 0% on its $29 Creator plan ($25 billed yearly) and covers digital products, courses, bookings, memberships and lead magnets. Email broadcasts and flows are only on Creator Pro at $99 a month, and no plan supports a custom domain. There is no free plan, only a 14-day trial. The best Stan Store alternatives runs the same math from Stan's side.

Beacons has a free plan, but it takes 9% of every sale, and so does its $10 Creator plan. You reach 0% on Creator Plus at $30 a month ($25 billed yearly). If you are leaving Gumroad to stop paying a percentage, Beacons Free is not the answer; Creator Plus is, and at that price it is competing with the flat-price stores.

Where shopspace fits

shopspace is a storefront for creators who bring their own audience and sell more than one kind of thing. The Creator plan is $19 a month billed yearly ($228 a year) or $29 month to month, and it takes 0% of every sale. Payments go straight to your own Stripe account; shopspace never holds your money.

One store holds digital downloads, physical products, courses with progress tracking, bookings for calls and coaching, memberships with community access, webinars and events, bundles, lead magnets, a tip jar and external links, with unlimited products, courses and members. Email campaigns and sequences, automations on store events and Instagram automations (an automatic DM when someone comments your keyword) are part of the Creator plan. Pro ($39 a month billed yearly, $49 month to month) adds a custom domain, a custom email sending domain, the Meta pixel with Conversions API, and 10,000 AI actions a month.

What it does not do is just as important. There is no marketplace: nothing like Discover sends you buyers, so the traffic is yours to bring. It does not handle sales tax or VAT for you. And after the 7-day trial there is no plan that costs nothing. If any of those three is the reason you chose Gumroad, Payhip or Lemon Squeezy is the closer swap. Which Gumroad alternative should you pick?

If you are past about $160 a month in sales, Gumroad's cut is already bigger than a flat plan, and it keeps growing. Try shopspace free for 7 days and move one product over to see it working. A card is required at signup, nothing is charged during the 7 days, and if you cancel inside the trial you pay nothing.
